MEET JAKE OSBORNE

MEET JAKE OSBORNE

Founder & Co-Owner, OC Decks (a division of Osborne Construction Inc.)

Before founding OC Decks, a division of Osborne Construction Inc., Jake Osborne worked as a foreman and site supervisor on large-scale construction projects, including a multi-phase role during the construction of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station. He led teams of journeymen carpenters during the summers of 2015 and 2016, managing timelines, logistics, and quality standards under challenging conditions.

Jake began his carpentry career through the Red River College Carpentry Apprenticeship Program in 2011. With a strong work ethic and hands-on experience gained while working with KMK Ventures, he completed the program in under three years—well ahead of schedule. He went on to successfully challenge the Government of Canada’s Interprovincial Red Seal Exam, earning his Red Seal Carpenter designation with top marks. This nationally recognized certification allows him to work as a licensed tradesperson across all Canadian provinces and territories.

Since launching Osborne Construction Inc., Jake has spent over a decade learning his craft, and mentoring apprentices through the same program that shaped his own path. Today, he continues that commitment to education and the trades as a proud committee member of the Apprenticeship Board of Manitoba.

While Jake still enjoys being on the tools, his day-to-day role has shifted to include consultations, project estimating, and overall project management. He continues to support and train staff while fostering a workplace culture rooted in quality, patience, and mentorship. When hiring and training new apprentices, Jake emphasizes a “quality over quantity” philosophy, prioritizing craftsmanship and character over speed.

On-site, Jake is known for his calm demeanor, thoughtful approach, and zero-pressure communication style. He doesn’t believe in pushing sales—he believes in presenting honest, clear options and letting clients decide what’s best for them. That said, Jake has a serious resting face (paired with a few tattoos) that many find a little intimidating at first. It’s become a running joke on job sites that clients will often go to employees with questions before approaching him—something everyone laughs about, including Jake himself. Underneath that quiet exterior, he’s known to those around him as incredibly gentle-natured, down-to-earth, quick-witted and deeply committed to doing the right thing by his clients, team, and trade.

Outside of work, Jake enjoys spending time with his partner Aimée (co-owner of OC Decks) and their two young daughters. The reality of raising toddlers while running a business means personal time is limited these days—but when he does carve some out, it usually involves beer league hockey, eating a whole lot of meat (he’s been committed to a carnivore lifestyle for over three years and isn't looking back - good-bye inflammation), and biking anywhere he possibly can. Outside of work hours, he takes any opportunity to hop on his bike—sometimes even delivering deck samples, much to Aimée’s worry over Winnipeg’s not-so-bike-friendly infrastructure.

Aimée — Co-Owner & Creative Director

While I’ve been quietly involved in Osborne Construction’s evolution for over five years—handling everything from in-house photography to website design and our social media presence—it wasn’t until about three years ago that I fully stepped into a leadership role. After two years working officially as a paid employee, I took the leap into co-ownership as we transitioned into a corporation.

Today, I manage a wide range of day-to-day operations including client inquiries (if you’ve contacted us online, you’ve probably heard from me!), scheduling, project management, HR, payables and receivables, and overall admin. I also help bridge communication between Jake and our clients when he’s on-site, and I love joining client consults whenever I can—getting to know our clients and bringing their design visions to life is one of my favorite parts of the job. I’m usually on-site multiple times throughout a project to capture photos of the process and final results, all while maintaining our website and social platforms. I wear a lot of hats—and I enjoy the change of pace and variety each day brings.

I attended the University of Winnipeg for Kinesiology, and later shifted my focus to horticulture and plant design, eventually working my way up to lead gardener and then supervisor for the City of Winnipeg’s downtown gardens. That role sparked my passion for design, leadership, and organization—skills that eventually led me to start and run my own wedding photography business for over a decade.

These days, my focus is on our family, our growing company, and the happiness and growth of our team. I love setting goals and reflecting on how far we’ve come, especially knowing that our reputation for craftsmanship and customer care has gotten us here.

On the personal side, Jake and I share two beautiful, curious, and clever toddler girls. Being a mom fuels my creativity in new ways—whether it’s planning little surprise moments, themed celebrations, or just day-to-day fun. I want our girls to grow up knowing that experiences are more valuable than things.

I’m a deeply all-in kind of person—I could work endlessly if I let myself! Thankfully, Jake reminds me to find more balance. I often work late into the evenings once the girls are asleep, but my ultimate way to unplug is through travel, hiking, or spontaneous family adventures. I journal, set goals, and track my progress—I’m a list-checker through and through.

Fun fact: Jake and I backpacked through five countries just months into dating. We survived that adventure, and now here we are—two businesses and two kids later! I’ve visited 13 countries, used to scuba dive avidly, and still love playing sports when time allows. A visit to Thermea is my version of a full reset, and I’m always game for a new experience.
